MOORE CONTEMPORARY is honoured to present an exhibition of new work by distinguished Australian artist BRIAN BLANCHFLOWER. This is his first solo exhibition since 2019. It unveils the latest ‘Canopies’ – so titled because of their origins in looking skywards and Blanchflower’s enduring commitment to pondering our being in the universe and in nature.
In his latest works—on show for the first time—the palette is vibrant on his signature raw edged painted hessian or canvas and they continue to possess the profound resonance he is known to achieve with matter, colour, texture and space.
The exhibition comprises five works spanning the grand to the intimate. It features a large-scale triptych through to a small painted box work, and this variance in many ways encapsulates the essence of Blanchflower’s studio practice and remarkable career. These minimal works are meditative and conceptually powerful in their reductivity, offering evidence of a life-long act of seeing, reflecting and relaying.
